Pest Guide to Flies

Overview:

This blog is a quick introduction to dealing with an infestation of flies. As with all pests, it’s important to understand the importance of proper treatment and maintenance, to get rid of and keep pests out of your space.

Facts about Flies:

There are many kinds of common flies that are found in and around manmade structures. Flies can easily locate and cluster around home, offices, and places where food is out in the open, like supermarkets and restaurants. The most frequently appearing types include house flies, stable flies, horse flies, bottle flies, black flies, drain flies, and cluster flies.

These pests are small but can be very annoying and hard to get rid of. Most flies do not live longer than a year, and some have significantly shorter lifespans. However, if they live in the right temperatures and have food readily available to them, they reproduce very quickly. For example, house flies can lay 75-100 eggs. In warm weather, these eggs hatch in just 12 to 24 hours. Catching flies can be simple but keeping them away in the long term takes dedication and careful maintenance.

An important first step for getting rid of flies is making sure all food is stored away properly. Trash areas should be regularly cleaned, and cans/bins/etc. should always be closed. Any open water sources should be covered or emptied whenever possible. Good sanitation practices, alongside a team of experts, will support you in getting rid of any fly issues you may have.

If you have, or suspect you have, a fly problem, please contact us at A-Z Environments. We will work with you to get these pests out of your space in the least disruptive way possible.
